When mind is controlled, Self stays in His native condition. Otherwise He confirms to the nature of mind’s activities
The mind’s natural state is one of bliss and contentment.
If we allow ourselves to be tossed and turned by uncontrolled signals from the brain, our lives will be a constant state of uncertainty and stress.
Control of the mind is, therefore, considered one of the most effective ways of relieving personal suffering.
In ancient times yoga was meditation alone. Breathing, relaxation and asanas were all techniques devised to encourage the dispassionate mental state that is the prelude to meditation.
Although these techniques are used much more widely than they once were, meditation and the attainment of states of consciousness in which the mind is elevated above worldly suffering, remain the ultimate goals of yoga.
